Apologies to users for the incredibly slow running of the site recently. It took ages to first realise there was a problem and then get round to checking it out, and then actually fix it.
Turns out we broke something in an update a while back – what a surprise. So for the techies, basically we had some MYSQL queries that were taking upwards of 5-6 seconds to run and of course were massively impacting performance. I mean, who want to wait 10 seconds for a site to load, right? And it seems this poor performance had also not gone unnoticed by Google, and our traffic from Google had suffered as a result.
Anyway, so glad to have got that problem fixed and have pages loading within a few seconds – just wish we’d acted more quickly. Let us know if you notice anything like this in the future!
